The Hotel on Mulberry Bay - Melissa Hill (2015)

Architect Elle has returned to her family’s hotel in Mulberry Bay to attend her mother’s funeral. Anna had been the life and soul of the hotel but Elle and her sister, Penny, discover that business has not been booming and the hotel needs some serious TLC. Their father Ned doesn’t have a lot to do with the day-to-day running of the hotel, preferring instead to listen to his beloved Beatles music. Can the sisters work together to save their mother’s legacy? This is a light read about a family facing difficulties. The story was rather predictable and lacked that Melissa Hill trademark twist so it is my least favourite novel of hers to date.

The Hotel on Mulberry Bay, by Melissa Hill, is about two sisters banding together to save a hotel. The summary says: "The Bay Hotel, perched on a clifftop above a sweeping bay, was once the heart and soul of the Irish town around it. In the Harte family for generations, and childhood home to thirty-something sisters Elle and Penny, the place itself was almost as beloved as cheery landlady Anna. But following a family tragedy, Elle is forced to return from her busy London world and confront the reality of the life she left behind. When it becomes apparent that the hotel may need to be sold, Elle and Penny are unprepared by the reaction of their father, Ned, who steadfastly refuses to move, revealing that he's given up something equally precious once before. Startled by their father's surprising revelation, the sisters unite, with the local community behind them, in their efforts to save the hotel - and, in the process, heal the fractures in the Harte family." The Hotel on Mulberry Bay is out in May 2015.
