Bridget Jones 3
According to Variety, the third big-screen instalment of the Bridget Jones series is in development through Working Title. Insiders expect Renee Zellweger to return to her role as the loveable heroine. It will likely be based on the newspaper columns that author Helen Fielding wrote continuing the story after the sequel Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, in which Bridget, now in her 40s, attempts to have a baby before it's too late. Turn away now if you don't want to know how Bridget's story ends in the column. Still torn between Daniel Cleaver and Mark Darcy, in the last entry she gives birth to a boy, fathered by Daniel.
Can You Keep a Secret?
Another Sophie Kinsella story set for the big screen courtesy of Paramount Pictures. This time Kate Hudson has been linked to play junior marketing executive Emma Corrigan, who confesses her innermost secrets to a plane passenger - only to find he is her company's American CEO.
Chasing Harry Winston
Lauren Weisberger is set to see another of her books on the big screen, with media reports indicating Universal and Mandalay Pictures have picked up the film rights to her 2008 release. The book is about three friends who set out to change their lives over a year. Andy Tennant (Hitch, Fool's Gold) is attached to direct. Jennifer Aniston and Gerard Butler have been tipped to star after being seen on a dinner date (thanks to Gabi for the tip).
Enchanted, Inc
Universal has optioned the film rights to Shanna Swendson's 2005 novel about smalltown girl Katie Chandler who lands in the big city with a job at Magic, Spells, and Illusion Inc., which traffics in benevolent sorcery.
Falling Out of Fashion
This debut novel by Karen Yampolsky about Jill White who leaves a hippie commune and heads to New York with dreams of making it as a magazine editor is being produced by Hilary Swank's 2S Films company. It's slated for a 2011 release.
Getting Rid of Matthew
Jennifer Aniston's film production company Echo Films has bought the film rights to Jane Fallon's debut novel about Helen whose affair with her married boss is ruined when he decides to leave his wife for her. The Universal Studio movie, with Aniston expected to star and produce, is expected to be out in 2010. Fallon was reported saying: "Jennifer Aniston was always my top choice to play Helen, who is having an affair with a married man, but I really wanted someone who brought that likeability to the screen, so even though you knew she was behaving really badly you couldn't help but like her."
Happiness Sold Separately
Based on Lolly Winston's novel, this film reportedly will star Julia Roberts as Elinor, a housewife who withdraws from her life after finding out that her husband had an affair with his trainer at the gym.
If You Could See Me Now
Another Cecelia Ahern novel making it to the big screen courtesy of Walt Disney Pictures. And yet another one linked to Hugh Jackman (he'll play imaginary friend Ivan). It is tipped to be a musical. The producers have been responsible for other big musical projects such as Chicago, Hairspray and Footloose.
LA Candy
Lauren Conrad's bestselling debut novel may well be coming to a cinema near you in the not-too-distant future. The screen rights have been snapped up by Temple Hill Entertainment, the same production team that has bought the Twilight books to the big screen. Her book is about a 19-year-old who has to deal with fame in Hollywood after scoring a role on a TV reality show. The story mirrors Conrad's own as she first rose to fame on the MTV reality show Laguna Beach before moving on to The Hills. Conrad is reportedly planning to write two more books centred around her heroine Jane Roberts. With Conrad expected to act as an executive producer, who will play Jane?
Queen of Babble
Meg Cabot's Queen of Babble series is heading for the big screen, with Kristen Bell set to play Lizzie Nichols. The yet untitled movie produced by New-York-based Sharp Independent (Boys Don't Cry, Evening) will follow Lizzie, a fashion-obsessed American girl who goes to London with her British boyfriend. But when he proves to be a jerk, she falls for someone new in France. The producers have a book-to-film partnership with HarperCollins and announced their option at this year's Sundance Film Festival.
Rachel's Holiday
Now in development with Catherine Zeta-Jones reportedly to star in the lead role of this immensely popular chicklit book by Marian Keyes. With director Francesca Joseph attached, it is also expected to star Scott Bakula, of Quantam Leap fame.
Sammy's Hill
A Columbia TriStar release based on the debut novel from former US president Al Gore's daughter Kristin Gore. Written and directed by David O. Russell (I Heart Huckabees) it is tipped to be a The West Wing meets Sex and the City. Names touted for the Samantha Joyce role include Drew Barrymore and Kirsten Dunst.
Shoe Addicts Anonymous
Oscar winner Halle Berry has signed on to star in a movie version of Beth Harbison's 2007 novel. It's about four Chicago women who become 'sole' sisters through a shoe swap support group. It has been reported that Berry will take on the role of Sandra, who is agoraphobic and pays her online shoe bills by working as a sex-phone operator. British director Paul Weiland (Made of Honour) will helm the movie and filming is expected to start later this year, with its release expected in 2011. Harbison's next book is tentatively titled Always Something There to Remind Me.
The Bachelorette Party
Karen McCullah Lutz's The Bachelorette Party, about a jilted woman attending the hen's party for her cousin who is marrying her best friend, was touted as a 20th Century Fox vehicle for Nicole Kidman. Kidman is now attached as producer, with Leslie Bibb the only cast member announced. McCullah Lutz was a screenwriter on Legally Blonde and 10 Things I Hate About You.
The Devil in the Junior League
This Linda Francis Lee book is also known as Ladies Who Lunch. Alias star Jennifer Garner has reportedly signed on for this 20th Century Fox production. It is not yet known if Garner will only produce the movie or if she will also join the cast to play either the Junior League socialite or the woman she has to help.
The Dirty Girls' Social Club
Alisa Valdes-Rodriguez reports progress on the pre-production of this movie, saying the script has been approved and casting is due to take place soon.
The Friday Night Knitting Club
Kate Jacobs' The Friday Night Knitting Club is heading for the big screen, courtesy of Universal Pictures. Julia Roberts has been cast as Georgia Walker, the single mum who juggles the demands of running a Manhattan knitting store while raising her teen daughter.
The Ivy Chronicles
Sarah Jessica Parker is reportedly in talks about being involved in a screen version of Karen Quinn's The Ivy Chronicles, about a woman who starts a consulting business to help privileged pre-schoolers get into New York's top kindergartens. Jerry Weintraub, of the Ocean's Eleven franchise, is expected to produce.
The Late Bloomer's Revolution
Sarah Jessica Parker will reportedly star in the film version of Amy Cohen's memoir The Late Bloomer's Revolution. The film will tell the story of a single woman who, following the death of her mother, develops a bond with her father when they both find themselves on the dating scene. Parker will produce the film through her production company Pretty Matches. Gilmore Girls creator Amy Sherman-Palladino will direct. Cohen was a writer-producer on sitcoms Caroline in the City and Spin City and a dating columnist for the New York Observer.
The Next Thing on My List
Jill Smolinski's novel about a woman whose life changes when a passenger in her car dies, has been acquired by New Line Cinema. Wendy Finerman Productions, behind The Devil Wears Prada and PS I Love You, is set to produce.
The Opposite of Love
Anne Hathaway (The Devil Wears Prada) has reportedly signed on to star in the film version of Julie Buxbaum's debut novel. She will play Emily, a lawyer whose life starts unravelling after she dumps the guy who wants to marry her.
The Ten Best Days of My Life
Adena Halpern's debut novel is reportedly in development to be a movie. Director Shawn Levy and actress Amy Adams are attached (they both worked together on Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian). The story is about Alex who dies after being hit by a car while out walking her dog. To reach Seventh Heaven, she has to demonstrate her worth by recounting her favourite 10 days on Earth. A release date hasn't been confirmed but it could be as early as 2011.
The Undomestic Goddess
Another of Sophie Kinsella's novels is going to get the big-screen treatment. This time it's her 2005 novel about a lawyer, who makes a huge mistake on the eve of her promotion and runs away to the countryside where she takes on a housekeeping job. Andy Fickman (The Game Plan, She's the Man) has signed on as director and Aline Brosh McKenna (The Devil Wears Prada) has written the script. Thankfully, unlike with Confessions of a Shopaholic, the studio has confirmed the film will retain the English setting.
Time of My Life
Work is progressing one the screenplay of the Weinsten Co's movie adaptation of Allison Winn Scotch's 2008 novel. The story focuses on a 30-something married mother, Jillian, who wakes one day to find herself seven years in the past and back with her advertising executive ex-boyfriend Jackson. Will she embrace this chance to do her life over - and will she want to return to her previous life? The Ugly Truth writer Nicole Eastman is working on the script.
