MAKING HER DEBUT

Lindy Hughes' It Never Stays in Vegas, is about a woman hitting her mid-life crisis and heading off to Las Vegas to meet an ex-lover. The summary says: "When 42-year-old Lucy receives a phone call from an old flame, the timing could not be worse . . . or more perfect. Happily married for 18 years and a mother of three teenagers, Lucy is grapping with a growing dissatisfaction with her life. Grasping for something - anything! - to reconnect her with the daring girl of her past, Lucy impulsively agrees to meet Matthew in Las Vegas. After all, he was her first true love, her first lover and the father (unbeknownst to him) of her first child. The rendezvous turns out to be a complicated one, of course, and Lucy finds herself face-to-face with not one, but two ghosts from her past." Hughes, a South African now living in Vancouver, Canada, hit her own midlife crisis when she realised she hadn't become a writer. So she headed off to Las Vegas with her laptop to begin her first novel.
