Days of Awe (2015)

Teacher Isabel is trying to pick up the pieces after the death of her best friend, Josie, and the breakdown of her marriage. Her ten-year-old daughter, Hannah, is also pulling away from her. The story backtracks over the period before and after Josie’s fatal car accident, exploring all the relationships and the resulting grief and disbelief over the loss of a loved one. Isabel is having to face up to the fact that, over the space of a year, her life as she knows it has altered irrevocably. With an assured writing style, this is an emotionally charged story with very real, flawed and complicated characters. 7/10
