When Stanley Huang finds out he has cancer, the news rocks his family. And his wives and adult children can’t help but start thinking about what will happen to his fortune. Son Fred hopes the money will lessen the sting of his financial career falling short of expectations, while daughter Kate, who works for a flashy tech company, wonders if her husband’s start-up will ever amount to anything. Current wife Mary is staying firmly by Stanley’s side – or massaging his feet – to ensure she doesn’t miss out on her share of the inheritance. And ex-wife Linda doesn’t believe there’s much money left since she was always the savvy investor of the pairing.
This is an entertaining read full of snark about the complicated relationships of a wealthy Chinese-American family. Linda was the only likeable character though.
