The Husbands (2024)

Lauren comes home from her friend’s hens party to find a strange man in her flat. What is even stranger is that he appears to be her husband from the photos and messages on her phone.
As she is wrestling with how she came to be married, Michael goes into the attic again and is replaced by a different man. Lauren eventually realises her attic is serving her up an ever-changing smorgasbord of husbands.
But should she keep moving on to a new man or should she stick with the current guy?
This had such an intriguing premise and that intrigue continued throughout the story as you wondered when Lauren would decide to call halt on the revolving husbands - a brash representation of today's tendencies to swipe quickly through potential dates on an app. It’s a thought-provoking read for those looking for something a bit different (and for that I award it an extra point). For those wanting an explanation to the magical realism or to really get to know and throw your support behind a particular husband, you may be disappointed. 8/10
