Reality Matters - edited by Anna David (2010)

Reality Matters is a book of 19 essays from various writers, watchers, producers and other people in the entertainment industry on the phenomenon that is reality TV. Each essay takes a humorous and critical look at some of the most popular reality TV shows - from Survivor and Big Brother to American Idol and Project Runway. The book starts off with an essay on the Real Housewives of New York by former Jon Stewart contributor, Stacey Grenrock-Woods. Woods, having gone through a tough financial time in 2008 (much like the rest of us!) writes about not having enough money to buy groceries while watching Jill Zarin spend $16,000 on a purse. Other shows under the spotlight include Sober House, The Hills, The Dog Whisperer and many more. It is a fun read for anyone who finds themselves sitting on the couch in their comfy clothes glued to the TV as they follow the "real" lives of reality stars. The essays are edited by Anna David, the author of novels Party Girl and Bought. (JE)
