The Way of the Happy Woman: Living the Best Year of Your Life - Sara Avant Stover (2011)

Sara Avant Stover had a health scare in her early 20s that changed her life - she moved to Thailand, studied yoga, and is now an inspirational speaker across the United States. In this book she goes over living according to the rhythms of nature. She speaks about honouring the seasons and living according to them for a happier, well-balanced life. There are recipes, yoga sequences, self-reflection techniques, and season-specific retreats. There's a lot of literature about being a goddess, talk of awakening of the spirits, inspiring the mind, and finding your way. There are also many stories about people she has come in contact with, their struggles and her advice to them. I connected with a few of these women, and was happy for the advice. I don't see me being able to apply all of her techniques, or "baby steps" to my life but the ones I have added already seem to be bringing me a bit of peace. A good read, not a "self help" book but a "self love" book. I loved her journalling ideas, and self-inquiry questions the most. (AV)
