Sewing in a Straight Line - Brett Bara (2011)

This is a nice beginners' guide to simple sewing crafts. There is an introduction section called "getting started" that goes over basic sewing concepts, tools, and machinery. Also there is a hand sewing guide as well, with backstitch, running stitch, whipstitch on an edge, and whipstitch on a hem guides. There is also a machine sewing guide showing all of the different stitches. A list of basic sewing techniques along with a really helpful strap and quilt tutorial come next. This section was more than interesting to me as I am going to make my first project a quilt for mini me. There are simple skirts, shirred maxi dresses, beautiful blouses, tote bags, dresses, cardigans, pillows, quilts, and much more in this easy-to-follow book. I have much hope for my sewing ability, and lots of inspiration thanks to the beautiful large pictures and the author's great advice. brettbara.com/book (AV)
