Raw Food for Real People - Rod Rotondi (2009)

I have never tried it before and didn't know if I could maintain a raw food diet. For a beginner like me this book, subtitled Living Vegan Food Made Simple by the Chef and Founder of Leaf Organics, breaks it down nicely. There a vivid pictures to go along with some recipes and the author breaks down each section by type of recipe and by ingredients needed. I will say I am impressed with the things I have learnt in this book. My favourite recipe being the almond/nut milk recipes. I love them and use those with my regular (non) diet now. I didn't realise all the work it took to live the raw food lifestyle. For instance, to make any sort of beans you have to soak them for a long time. I found for them to be a good texture for me, I'd have to soak them 24 hours. That work that goes into each meal doesn't work for my lifestyle. I like a quick meal. Though Rod did have some quick meals in here, it was nothing that I, a 115-pound 5'6 tall woman, could survive daily on. My favourite meal was the Mexican Corn Chowder. What I like about this "recipe" book is that it is very informative as well. Rod makes Raw Food reachable for people like me - if I wasn't so lazy. (AV)
