SPECIALTY SHELF
Happier: Learn the Secrets to Daily Joy and Lasting Fulfillment - Tal Ben-Shahar (2007)
Happiness is the ultimate currency. What a basic concept, right? You could do the same things you did yesterday but change your perspective, and you could be a much happier person than yesterday, easy peasy right? No. So how do you change your perspective? How do you change your way of motivation? Most importantly, what motivates you? Harvard University lecturer Tal Ben-Shahar encourages small, easily attainable goal setting, and appreciation of all things little and monumental. I think the concept of the book is good, and there are some fantastic techniques included as well. The only problem I had with this book is the way it's written. It seems more like a book written to impress other doctors or intellectuals than a book for the average person. The author speaks in choppy - and though very upbeat - unstructured chapters. I didn't find many new ideas in the book but all together it was an OK read. (AV)
