Marisa Mackle drew on her own experiences working as and hiring a nanny for her latest novel The Secret Nanny Club. The synopsis says: "Marina, 18, is desperate to get out of her country village and work in Dublin. As there are very few city jobs and she can't afford accommodation she is delighted to end up working for an affluent Dublin family in their palatial home. She is young and looking for love, but not with the kids' dad. He, however, is far too fond of the new nanny and his wife is a bit too fond of gin. Thirty-eight-year-old Kaylah's partner has left her high and dry with a new baby and as she is desperate to resurrect her flailing career in fashion she starts looking for a nanny. But she soon discovers that Mary Poppins is quite the mythical character and that real-life nannies sometimes like to party, drink, have very abnormal eating habits and invite strange men back to the house. The two women, 20 years apart, discover they have much in common when they find themselves accidentally embroiled in The Secret Nanny Club which is run by two sinister sisters with ulterior motives that are less than honourable."
