Erica Bauermeister's debut novel The School of Essential Ingredients has been renamed The Monday Night Cooking School for the UK market. It's about eight people who gather in Lillian's restaurant for a cooking class every Monday night. There's Claire, who can barely remember the last time she went out without her two kids; Antonia, an Italian kitchen designer learning to adapt to life in America; bachelor Ian, who exists on Chinese takeaways; Chloe, the distracted waitress who is forever dropping things; Carl and Helen, getting past a betrayal in their marriage; Isabelle, whose short-term memory is failing her; and Tom, who is mourning the loss of his wife.
