Sophie has begun to think there must be more to life than her boyfriend's grubby apartment and a job at a children's play centre. So when she comes across an advert for a live-in nanny in upstate New York, she figures what has she got to lose, after all she's hardly going to get the job. But the next thing she knows she's flying across the Atlantic, business class, to meet her new employers, the Parkers. However, finding anything out about them and their children is proving impossible, although she could certainly get used to their lifestyle. First things first, this is out and out erotic fiction. I was expecting some sort of dark mystery behind it all, but there's not, although there's a playful revelation to the whole set-up and an intriguing hook at the end. Ellis shows a strong inclination for the genre and fills her pages with lust, passion and sensuality. Narrative-wise it's pretty much as you'd expect, hardly bursting with mind-boggling plot or substance, but that's not what the genre is about. If you're not a fan of the genre, this won't do anything for you, if you are, it definitely will. The ending hints at there being more to come. (JC)
