Little Black Dresses, Little White Lies - Laura Stampler (2016)

All Harper has ever wanted is to be a journalist and to get into a college with a great journalism program. When she applies for an internship with teen magazine Shift, she realises she has to write an essay about something amazing in her life. Trouble is she can't think of anything because she appears to have lead the most boring life ever. However, her best friend Kristina has an amazing life - she's pretty, popular, athletic and has been with many guys. So Harper decides to use one of Kristina's stories as her own personal essay. Months pass, then the day before summer starts, Harper gets a phone call telling her that they want her to intern as a dating writer. She is about to discover that the magazine world is all about stats and clicks and how much your story is trending. She gets to re-invent herself and her dating articles lead her on all sorts of adventures where she meets all sorts of new people. Two guys, in particular, stand out - rich spoilt boy Carter and boy-next-door Ben. What will happen though when Harper's lies and life in NYC start to unravel after one of her posts goes viral? Can Harper handle the pressure of being out in the public eye with all the hate-mail? Little Black Dresses, Little White Lies is a great insight into today's world of magazines and social media where clicks, boosts and retweets are all the rage. (PP)
