The story begins with Genever, an author, and her businessman husband, Art, at a fertility clinic. They are a perfect couple who could want for nothing. Except a baby. Genever gave birth to a little girl called Beth but unfortunately the baby died during childbirth. Genever is most distraught, especially because she never even saw Beth. Art learns to put the tragedy behind them but Genever does not and her mental health suffers. One day, a woman turns up at Genever's door claiming her daughter is still alive. Desperate to see her daughter, Genever begins the search for Beth, with the help of her husband's friend. Genever unravels the truth about what actually happened to her daughter. I read this book in one day. I could not put it down until I had finished. The novel grips you from the first page until the surprise ending. I felt as though I was part of the novel and Sophie McKenzie did the characters great justice. I am praying there is a sequel! (SG)
